Irish Sport Horses Flying the Flag in Lanaken

The 2007 FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses got underway in Lanaken, Belgium on Thursday the 27th of September. A total of fifteen Irish Sport Horses travelled to Lanaken to compete in the prestigious young horse competition.

The Irish team were in flying form on Thursday and Friday throughout the 5, 6 and 7 year old qualifiers. In the 6 year old qualifiers both Creevagh Miss Jones (ISH), ridden by Delyth Collins, and H Two (ISH), ridden by Linda Courtney, jumped clear in both qualifiers to secure a place in the 6 year old Final on Sunday.

In 2006 the Irish Horse Board introduced a bonus prize money scheme to horses representing the Irish Sport Horse Studbook that finish in the top ten of the Finals in the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken, Belgium. Following the impressive performance from the Irish Sport Horse team at this years event, the Irish Horse Board will be happy to present Trevor Bartlett, owner and rider of Colgan Cruise (ISH),with a cheque for €7,000 and Linda Courtney, owner and rider of H Two (ISH),with a cheque for €5,000 at the IHB AGM on the 25th October in recognition of their achievements.

Irish Horse Board & Dressage Ireland Potential Irish Dressage Horse Final

The Final of the Potential Irish Dressage Horse classes was held at the National Dressage Championships, which took place at Necarne Castle on Friday 21st September.

The aim of these classes is to identify horses bred in Ireland who have the conformation, temperament and potential to be produced as a riding horse suitable for dressage.

Irish Sport Horse International Eventing & Showjumping Results
Burghley International Horse Trials

Parkmore Ed (ISH) and William Fox-Pitt (Gbr) stormed to victory in the CCI**** at Burghley International Horse Trials, which was held from 30th August to 2nd September 2007. Irish Sport Horses were well represented claiming four out of the top five prizes. Polly Stockton (Gbr) and Tom Quigley (ISH) took second place, finishing only one point behind the leaders.

Irish Horse Board Showjumping League Grand Final 2007

The Grand Final of the Irish Horse Board Showjumping League 2007 took place at Cavan Equestrian 3 Day Show on Sunday 2nd September. The Irish Horse Board provided a prize fund of almost €17,000 for this event, the culmination of the IHB Showjumping League.

In the 6/7 Year Old Grand Final, last year’s Grand Final winners Creevagh Miss Jones (ISH) and Delyth Collins jumped a superb jump off round to retain their title and take the 2007 Grand Final, winning the €6,000 class for owner Ronnie Hollinger. They finished clear in a time of 40.75, just ahead of Special Effects (ISH) and Olive Clarke who took second.

The breeders of these superb Irish Sport Horses were not left out of the prize money. Linda Courtney, breeder of Cavalier Tommi Tank (ISH), and Trevor Badger, breeder of Creevagh Miss Jones (ISH), will both receive €400 from the IHB.

It was widely felt that this year’s Irish Horse Board Showjumping League was a resounding success. The IHB would like to thank all those involved in the shows that hosted the IHB classes for ensuring that the 2007 League was such a success.

At Hickstead, despite torrential rain, the Hickstead DFS Derby was a hotly contested class. The rain meant that the going was very tough but the ever popular Geoff Billington managed to complete the course on just 1 time fault to win the prestigious Derby class. Andrew Mizon, Geoff’s young student, finished in an impressive second place on the Irish Sport Horse Special Diamond.

Irish Horse Board Showjumping Classes at Mullingar Show 4th June 2007

The third leg in the series of IHB Showjumping Classes took place at Mullingar Show, which ran from 2nd to 4th June. The qualifiers in both age categories were held on Saturday, with the top twenty in each group going through to Sunday’s finals.

The entries for these IHB Showjumping Classes reached an all time high, with almost 60 entries in each of the age categories.

Irish Horse Board Proud Sponsors of the Premier League at Barnadown, 13th May 2007

The highest placed Irish Sport Horse was Killard Horizon and Paul O’Shea. In addition to sponsoring the Barnadown Premier League Grand Prix, the Irish Horse Board will also award a €500 breeder’s prize and a €500 owner’s prize to the highest placed Irish Sport Horse in each of the Premier League Grand Prix classes, providing the horse finishes in the top two. James Healy, breeder, and Kathryn Duffy, owner, of Killard Horizon (ISH) will receive this prize money after the results from Barnadown.
