Every September the Irish Draught Society inspect mares eligible for RID registration. Table 1 shows the results of the 2001 inspections. The significant increase in registrations in 2000 has been maintained this year.
The acceptance rate for mares presented for inspection has increased to 94.8% compared to 83.61% in 2000 and 74.31% in 1999. Proportion of Mares Registered as RID to Filly Foals Born.
Mares may be presented for inspection at any age from two years. The increase in number and percentage registered by year of birth as a result of the 2001 inspections can be seen in table 3. The proportion registered as two-year-olds to the number of fillies born increased by just 2 % on last year. The effort by the society to encourage registration has resulted in a significant increase especially to 1998 births. The overall registration rate of mares to filly foals born from 1991 to 1999 has increased by 4.3% from 2000 and now stands at 44.2%. Almost one quarter (23.9%) of the mares registered this year as RID are out of AID mares.
